AND ANOTHER THING......

MYRTLE RUST ARRIVES IN VICTORIA

The destructive plant fungus Uredo rangelii (myrtle rust) has been found at 20 sites in Victoria, mainly at production nurseries and wholesale outlets in and around metropolitan Melbourne. The disease poses a threat to Victoria’s nursery and forestry industries, as well as to public parks and gardens and native forests.
All members of the Myrtaceae plant family are potential hosts of myrtle rust. It attacks young, actively growing leaves, shoot tips and young stems, as well as the fruits and flowers of susceptible plants.
Rusts are highly transportable because they can produce large numbers of very small spores. Myrtle rust can be dispersed by various means, including human action via vehicles, clothing, shoes etc.

An Australian Blessing
written by Betty Pike, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry

May you always stand as tall as a gum tree,
Be as strong as the rock Uluru,
As gentle and still as the morning mist,
Hold  the warmth of the campfire in your heart.

And may the Spirit of God,
The Creator of this great south land of Australia,
Always walk with you.
Through Christ,
Amen.
